This is everything Wizards of Waverly Place fans wanted in their wildest dreams.
After all, Selena Gomez and David Henrie are returning to their magical roots with Disney Channel’s Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and the new trailer proves the wait will be worth it.
In the Sept. 24 teaser, Selena appears once again as Alex Russo to introduce Billie, a young prodigy wizard played by Janice LeAnn Brown, to her brother Justin—who is now a mortal because he chose to live a normal life.
“Billie,” Selena, who dons purple cloaks and bangs, says in the trailer. “I brought you here to meet your new wizard teacher.”
And naturally, David emulated his character Justin’s signature uptight disposition when Alex asked if he missed magic.
“No,” Justin answers. “I don’t even think about it every day.”
The series will center on Justin as he attempts to live a normal life with his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) and kids Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko). However, Justin’s resignation to live without magic is interrupted by Alex and Billie’s time of need.
As Justin notes of Billie later in the trailer, “The fate of the world is in her hands?”
To which Alex corrects her brother by saying, “Well, technically it’s in your hands.”
And while Selena—who is an executive producer of the revival series alongside David—won’t be a regular cast member, the Disney alum has expressed tons of excitement toward the project online.
“WE ARE BACK!!!” Selena wrote in an Instagram post back in March when the show got picked up for an entire first season. “SOOO GRATEFUL. MAGIC!”
The upcoming series will be certain to feed into former Wizards fans' nostalgia, while introducing a new story—as the trailer also sees Billie acclimating to living with Justin’s family.
“Things have changed, the Russos have grown,” David previously explained of the new series in a behind-the-scenes Instagram video last month. “We wanted to recreate that magic again for a new generation.”
